HIPPS

BREDA ENERGIA has over 60 years of experience in manufacturing reliable products for oil & gas production, transportation and distribution. Advanced solutions have been developed for several applications, among which HIPPS. A High Integrity Pressure Protection System (HIPPS) is a Safety Instrumented System (SIS) designed to prevent an unsafe condition caused by pressure arising (e.g. due to separator outlet blocked in the choke valve downstream, blocked pipeline, etc).
A High Integrity Pressure Protection System is used as alternative pressure protection, as a full or partial replacement for adequately sized mechanical pressure relief devices (PSVs and/or rupture disks).

Type of valves used are typically:

  • Ball valves
  • Slab gate Valves

Applications

  • Onshore Gas Pipelines
  • Offshore and Onshore Gas Well Pipelines
  • Offshore Subsea Applications

Main Components

  • Initiators (sensors): To detect the high pressure
  • Logic Solver: processes the input from the initiators and transmits an output to the final elements
  • Final Elements: formed by two valves assembled in series, that provide the fast shut-down of the line

Main Advantages

  • Negotiating the need for are systems to be sized for the case of a well failing to close
  • Production piping down rating, giving potential cost benefits
  • Fast inventory isolation within two seconds
  • Huge capital cost savings
  •
No capital cost for relief system (PSV, flare, etc.)
  •
Compliance with environmental constraints against discharges
